BRTC STUDENTS ASSIST WITH HISTORICAL PROJECT AT THE EDDIE MAE HERRON CENTER
POCAHONTAS, AR April 14—BRTC students recently assisted in installing a plaque at the Eddie Mae Herron Center. The plaque was installed to honor C.C. Scott, former Randolph County Resident.
C.C. Scott was an African-American pioneer, farmer, and entrepreneur who settled in Randolph County in the 1890s. As the plaque states, “By 1910 he had acquired substantial acreage near Biggers. Scott was buried on his land in 1926. Years later, a local family found his grave marker in a ditch and donated it to the Eddie Mae Herron Center. Today, little remains in Biggers to indicate the legacy of this family or the community of the African-American farmers there.”
Neal Harwell, Dean of Students, expressed that he was delighted that these students were willing to take on this project. He stated, “I was very proud of these students who braved the unfavorable weather conditions to help honor Mr. Scott. His history is truly amazing!”
